Why Part 3? Because I didn't blog about last night's shift (or part 2). I am sure the three people that follow the blog won't really mind at all.
I am currently working my last desk shift of the semester...and there is no one that I would rather work the desk with than a Mr. Michael Melaniphy (if only you knew how much of a lie that was). Michael and I are both done with finals, so we are currently looking for things to watch online and on Netflix. I believe that the majority of people are done with their finals, but there are quite a few still with one (maybe two) finals on Friday. We will make sure that we liven up the environment a little bit if need be.
More updates are surely to come at this last shift of the semester
Werner and Mike are currently watching: "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" (Episode from yesterday)

Working on Finals Week: Part I
Hello everybody! I hope that finals are going well for everybody. Currrently I am trying to study for my final on Thursday (a.k.a. social psychology)...yet at the same time being distracted by the TV show Psych on Netflix (love that they have seasons 1-4 on Netflix...awesomeness). Probably means that I will be watching more Psych than studying more psych...not that I am complaining. Hey, I always have tomorrow right?
Anyways, we have coffee and pretzels down here at the front desk (a perfect combination that goes together like peanut butter and jelly...right?) So if you need a break, definitely come down to the desk.
Also, I sadly caved in and got a Twitter account, so if you want to follow me, then here is your ticket @wnelson_300
P.S.: Sadly my tweets are locked, so you will have to request to follow me. Fortunately I am near a computer/iPod almost 24/7, so I shall respond quickly

Early Morning Words of Wisdom
"So it doesn't matter how many followers you have - it's all for the love of the blogging"
- Swanson resident Michael Farley, sophomore
This convo took place at 6 in the morning on facebook chat, since he, for some reason could not fall asleep. Thanks to Mr. Farley for his words of wisdom like this...
"OK well maybe I'll start following - that's a 50% increase!"

You know you need to quit smoking when...
...you are willing to go outside at 4 o'clock in the morning with a wind chill of -22 degrees to smoke
Just sayin...

Yay for the Graveyard Shift...
2-8 am shifts, for the record...NOT FUN.
I have surprisingly seen a fair amount of people pass through. With quiet hours in effect and finals week beginning on Monday, many people are taking to the books on the weekends, even on a frigid, negative 30 wind chill night like this one. Most interesting story of the night: students can't get their cars out of the parking garage because of the snow piled up by the entrances and exits.
I'm expecting a quiet rest of the night...just as long as nobody pulls the fire alarm...

The Christmas Tree Toppleth
So we have a Christmas Tree in the lobby of Swanson Hall. It had been on good standing the past couple of weeks that it has been up (no pun intended)...and it decided to fall over unexpectedly. Our RD tried to stand it back up but unfortunately did not succeed. However, our ARD was finally able to stand the tree back up...after it decided to fall over again twice.
Although the tree is back up now, it may be missing a few ornaments...and a couple branches (it's an artificial tree FYI)...

Staying Alive During Dead Week
Hey all! I hope that all is well and that you aren't too stressed out as we reach the home stretch of this first semester. While I am watching movies on Netflix (when I should be studying for my sales marketing final tomorrow), Mr. Melaniphy is serenading the desk with calming tunes at the desk to try to relax everyone as finals week approaches.
Currently at the desk we are asking people for feel good music to play at the desk, so if you have anything suggestions please let us know!! Good luck to everybody with their finals!!

Best Pizza Delivery Guy EVER
If you ever get the chance to talk to the Pizza Hut delivery guy with the name tag that reads "After 6"...he is one of the nicest people you will ever meet...and it is not because he gives out free bread sticks or sometimes a free small pizza.
He just loves seeing young adults like ourselves in school, and the fact that we are getting an education absolutely warms his heart. This is because he believes this "keeps kids off of the streets." If any of the desk workers or anybody who orders from Pizza Hut gets a chance to talk to him, you will be glad that you did.
Happy December!!
Hello followers (or people who just randomly found this blog post). I hope everybody is having an excellent December and things are going well. The holiday season is upon us, and although people are studying and cramming for finals, presentations, and papers at the end of the semester, it doesn't mean that the desk workers can't spread some holiday cheer. Some of the highlights from Tuesday (since I was too lazy/forgot to post)
1) I witnessed my first ever Nebraska football snuggie
2) I was shot for the second time this semester while working the desk (first time was with Nerf dart guns, second time was with flying discs)
3) The Swanson RAs on duty that night, Sara Lynch and John Young, dressed as ninjas for rounds (which completely ruins the concept of ninjas in the first place
