Back From Hiatus

Hello all!

From the start of this blog, you can probably tell I have more motivation to do this blog than previously. I apologize for the almost two-week hiatus from working on this blog. I have been in somewhat of a minor rut and therefore was unmotivated to really do the desk blog...which led me to start my personal blog. After a few entries in my personal blog, I feel like I am refreshed and ready to start again on the desk blog.

Here are some of the highlights from the past almost two weeks since I have been working the desk:

  • The delivery guy from Pizza that I mentioned in an earlier blog post delivered a large, stuffed-crust, Meat Lovers pizza to the desk workers for free
  • People have been delivering gifts for new members of sororities
  • I had four guys sing to me at the front desk after they had just sang to a new member of the Delta Zeta sorority
  • I took two people to McDonalds at 2:30 in the morning before my 3-7 am shift on Saturday morning (loooooooooooong story behind that one)
  • Various abusive behavior from various male Kiewit RAs (love you, Chris Boitano)
Those are just some of the highlights from the past few days...if anything new comes up, it will definitely be posted on this blog. Hope the start of the semester is going well!!

OK so I lied...

OK, so I am not as perky as I said I would be in my previous post. I just wanted to let people know that I have decided (with the encouraging of others) to attempt my own personal blog. Hopefully this will help people who read my desk blog (and for that, I thank you) get to know who I am *gasp* outside of working the front desk. The link to the personal blog is right here http://idontliveatthedesk.blogspot.com/ (Creative site name, huh?)

One other important note: I was privileged to work at the same time that the great Eric Svingen worked at Kiewit Hall. Talk about desk working excellence (That was for you, Eric)

Working After B-Ball

Hello All. I hope that everyone is having a good night and hopefully the first day of classes went well for everybody. Unfortunately the Jays men's basketball team lost a tough one to a very solid Wichita State team tonight. However, I guess I can take solace in the fact that the Jayhawks won, and the Wildcats (K-State) & Blue Devils both lost (Keywords: "I guess").

I apologize to my "legion" of followers if this entry does not have the "excitement" of previous entries. Probably just a combination of dreading to go to class, tiredness, as well as there being a lot of stuff on my mind it seems. The desk could be a little busier today because people went to the basketball game and are probably hanging out with friends and doing other stuff. Meanwhile, Mallory and I will try to stay warm at the desk and try to keep things "lively and entertaining."

I hope that everybody had a great night and trying to stay warm. Sorry again for my seemingly monotone post today. Promise I will be more "perky" next time around.

Welcome to the 2nd Semester!!!

Hello there Creighton students!! I hope that everybody out there had a fantastic winter break and were able to relax and not think about school for an entire three weeks. Personally, I enjoyed being with the family throughout the entire break and enjoying doing absolutely nothing at home. Unfortunately, the end of the break (especially here in the Midwest) was met by very frigid weather, which consisted of a good amount of snow, terrible roads, and many altered flight plans. For those of you may still be traveling back to campus, have a safe journey back (and don't rush...you are excused from Wednesday classes if you can't make it because of the weather).

The desk has been relatively quiet so far. There are a few people, however, that have just arrived from their hometowns excited for the new semester ahead (for some people, that would be a sarcastic remark). Right now I am working with Michelle Skaff, who currently has 120 crayons and a pack of 50 markers (with 12 silly scents included *gasp*). She is currently coloring pretty pictures and trying to get me to color with her. I am refusing to join in, as I have more important things to do (like not watch South Park). It did not stop her from making a sign for my room sadly enough.

I hope that everybody has a fantastic first day of classes tomorrow!! I will definitely update people on any "breaking" news that occurs.

Working On Finals Week, Part III

Why Part 3? Because I didn't blog about last night's shift (or part 2). I am sure the three people that follow the blog won't really mind at all.

I am currently working my last desk shift of the semester...and there is no one that I would rather work the desk with than a Mr. Michael Melaniphy (if only you knew how much of a lie that was). Michael and I are both done with finals, so we are currently looking for things to watch online and on Netflix. I believe that the majority of people are done with their finals, but there are quite a few still with one (maybe two) finals on Friday. We will make sure that we liven up the environment a little bit if need be.

More updates are surely to come at this last shift of the semester

Werner and Mike are currently watching: "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" (Episode from yesterday)

Working on Finals Week: Part I

Hello everybody! I hope that finals are going well for everybody. Currrently I am trying to study for my final on Thursday (a.k.a. social psychology)...yet at the same time being distracted by the TV show Psych on Netflix (love that they have seasons 1-4 on Netflix...awesomeness). Probably means that I will be watching more Psych than studying more psych...not that I am complaining. Hey, I always have tomorrow right?

Anyways, we have coffee and pretzels down here at the front desk (a perfect combination that goes together like peanut butter and jelly...right?) So if you need a break, definitely come down to the desk.

Also, I sadly caved in and got a Twitter account, so if you want to follow me, then here is your ticket @wnelson_300

P.S.: Sadly my tweets are locked, so you will have to request to follow me. Fortunately I am near a computer/iPod almost 24/7, so I shall respond quickly

Early Morning Words of Wisdom

"So it doesn't matter how many followers you have - it's all for the love of the blogging"
- Swanson resident Michael Farley, sophomore

This convo took place at 6 in the morning on facebook chat, since he, for some reason could not fall asleep. Thanks to Mr. Farley for his words of wisdom like this...

"OK well maybe I'll start following - that's a 50% increase!"
